Bad news for Chiefs’ Mashiane

Kaizer Chiefs have declared midfielder Happy Mashiane’s season over, while positive news has come out over the likes of Khama Billiat, Erick Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama.

Mashiane’s debut season has come to a premature end after slow progress on his toe fracture will require a few more weeks to recover.

But with only five weeks left of the season, it is unlikely the 21-year-old will recover and gain match fitness in time to feature again, after a promising start to his senior career earlier this year.

The Amakhosi youth graduate made his first team debut against Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup on January 27, and managed just three more appearances before suffering the injury.

“Happy’s toe fracture is taking longer than expected to heal,” reported Chiefs physiotherapist Dave Milner on the club’s website. “The youngster requires a few more weeks to fully recover.”

The former Amajita utility player joins the likes of goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and fellow youth graduate Nkosingiphile Ngcobo on the long-term injury list.

Meanwhile, some positive news is that the recovery of Mathoho and Manyama is now complete, with the duo now only requiring some playing minutes to mark their full returns.

“They are both training. The one thing left for the two is to get back to match fitness. We are monitoring their progression towards match fitness. It will take a bit of time, but we are happy with their progress,” Milner added, before also providing an update on Billiat.
