Barca book Copa del Rey final berth

FC Barcelona sealed passage to the Copa del Rey final after defeating Real Madrid 3-0 in semi-final second-leg on Wednesday night.

It wasn’t an easy opening for Barca, as Vinicius Junior squandered a big chance to increase Real’s advantage on 19 minutes.

Vinicius was at it again, as his shot on this occasion forced a good save out of Marc Andre Ter Stegen five minutes later.

Ter Stegen was kept increasingly busy in the opening interplay, sparring Karim Benzema’s blushes off Vinicius inside halftime.

In light of their dominance, Real were dealt a blow when Luis Suarez finished off Ousmane Dembele’s low cross to give Barca the lead on 52 minutes.

A scorer in big games recently, Casemiro sent a header from a free-kick wide of the post in final few minutes as Los Blancos went in search of an equaliser.

With Los Blancos on the ropes, the Catalans added a second when Raphael Varane turned Dembele’s cross into his own net 20 minutes to the final whistle.

The five-time European champions made it three after Casemiro hacked down Suarez in the box, leaving the Uruguayan to slot home his second from the spot.

Everything turned on Real, who unbelievably struggled to get any work out of Ter Stegen, as Barca’s defence of the cup continues.
