Cavani rules out Modric for Ballon d'Or

With the 2018 Ballon d’Or likely to be the end of the Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi duopoly of the past decade, one of Europe’s most feared attackers believes Luka Modric won’t be the player to arise as the history maker.

With Modric having lifted the 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball, FIFA The Best Men’s Player of the Year and UEFA Mens Player of the Year – many believe the Croatian maestro will make a clean sweep with the Ballon d’Or.

With the ceremony set to be held on 3 December, Messi and Ronaldo’s shortcomings at Russia 2018, have seen their prospects diminish, despite maintaining their incredible goalscoring exploits throughout 2018.

However, PSG attacker Edinson Cavani is of the belief that a France national team player is destined to be crowned the finest player by France Football next month.

“[Raphael] Varane may well be up there. [Antoine] Griezmann, Mbappé,” the PSG striker told AS.

“For me, a Frenchman should win it. There are other players, but it should be a Frenchman; they’ve won big things. It should be one of those three.

“[Luka] Modric? He had a great season, but Varane won the Champions League and the World Cup.

“Modric was a finalist [at Russia 2018] and had a great season, but Varane deserves it more.”
