Cape Town City’s Absa Premiership title bid was halted after they played to a goalless draw with Polokwane City on Friday night.
The Citizens made two changes from their win over Mamelodi Sundowns, with Teko Modise and Chris David drafted into the side while Rise and Shine remained unchanged from their victory over Golden Arrows.
After a slow start in the match, David almost gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute with a long range strike that was goal-bound but Polokwane goalkeeper George Chigova parried the shot over the bar.
The visitors were already defending in numbers towards the half-hour mark, making it difficult for Benni McCarthy’s charges to find spaces in the last third.
The pace of the game did not pick up in the early stages of the second stanza as the Mother City struggled to carve out chance, which prompted McCarthy to throw on Siphelele Mthembu cand Craig Martin after the hour.
Mthembu almost broke the deadlock for the Citizens with 20 minutes remaining after he was setup by Thamsanqa Mkhize inside the box but he was denied by Chigova.
McCarthy’s men attacked in numbers in the latter stages of the the second half, but even with the introduction of Gift Links, they were unable to find a way past Chigova as the encounter ended all square.
