Eagles: No more coaching CVs needed

Royal Eagles chairperson Shawn Mpisane says Sazi Ngubane will coach the team until the end of the season with assistance from Bafana Nhlapo following the death of Roger Sikhakhane.

Sikhakhane was laid to rest in his hometown of Wasbank in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

The 42-year-old was placed on sick leave four games into the season, with the club then handing the reins over to Ngubane and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi.

The duo won two out of three matches before Dikgacoi was suspended by management, ostensibly for telling the players to take days off during a FIFA break without the club’s permission, and effectively forced out.

With ‘KG’ in limbo, ex-AmaZulu player Ngubane steered the team to a draw against TS Galaxy at home and a win against Cape Umoya United away.

Due to Sikhakhane’s funeral, Eagles then played Mbombela United at KaNyamazane Stadium yesterday, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mphakamiseni Nene.

“I’ve decided, we have decided, that Sikhakhane believed in Bafana Nhlapo, who was a player. He saw that there was something special from Bafana. We promoted him to help our coach from the development Sazi Ngubane,” Mpisane said.

“As of now, as a club we have decided that we don’t need CVs of coaches, we are good. We are fine and please agents, we are fine, we are alright and please don’t send us CVs. We’ll use what we have and see where that takes us. The spirit of Roger will be with us to give us his dream that he intended to give us, which was PSL promotion.

“So we are fine with CVs. Those who feel they are better than our coaches, we have a right and the players have a right now to use what we have and see where it takes us. We know there will be trying times.”
