Ernst frustrated with 1-1 scoreline

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp felt the 1-1 scoreline was not a true reflection of the game against Polokwane City.

Amakhosi took the lead in the 15th minute from the penalty spot thanks to Daniel Cardoso but Rise and Shine equalised five minutes later with a long range effort from Walter Musona, although Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi should have done better.

“We had a wonderful effective start, 1-0 and I think there were other two moments and a [possible] penalty coming through. We had opportunities inside the box but we got a little bit disturbed, let me take it from their side,” Middendorp told SuperSport TV.

“After we conceded at 1-1, in the next 15 minutes [we were not in the game] but then in the closing minutes [of the first stanza] we pushed again,” he continued.

“In the second half, you can see, you get long balls kicked over 50 meters and you have to start again. You get kicked 50 meter balls, you have to start again. I think that’s the story of the second half, we have not been able [to penetrate] against a block of seven or eight players [behind the ball] around the box to keep calm and do the right stuff.

“We had half opportunities, with headers here [and there] inside the box but good goalkeeping on the other end and you end up with 1-1. I think that’s definitely not reflecting the game.”

The German tactician took time to explain his substitutions and asked for patience as he reintegrates the players who were injured back to the side.

“Philani Zulu was injured with a broken bone since the 22nd of December, came [back] in the middle of February. [He] played now the second time, contributing to the game. Everybody must understand that he’s not able and capable after this long break to play full 90 minutes.
