Fadlu doesn't fear for his job

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has dismissed rumours that his job is on the line, insisting he has got the full support of club chairman Farook Kadodia.

Davids was lavished with praise after modestly-assembled Maritzburg finished a best-ever fourth in the league and reached a maiden Nedbank Cup final last term in his first full season as a head coach.

The 37-year-old has since come under pressure with the Team of Choice in 12th place on the log with 10 points from 11 games.

Davids, though, points out United went through a similar slump in 2017/18 before turning the corner in style with a 4-2 win over Cape Town City in December 2017.

“I have got the full support from the chairman. That’s really the situation. I am lucky with the chairman and the board that I have at Maritzburg,” Davids said.

“Last season I was in a similar situation. Perhaps if it was another chairman I would have been sacked that time after 10 games and 10 points. [But] then you end up fourth and you end up in a cup final.

“That has been the support I have been getting from the chairman, the board and the club. They know the work that has been put in. It’s there for us to turn it around.”

Maritzburg next host fellow strugglers Black Leopards at Harry Gwala Stadium on December 12.
