Guardiola demands City response

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has challenged his players to pick up back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Southampton before the top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool in early January.

City have encountered mixed results lately in their title defence, which started with a defeat to Chelsea, before a 3-1 win over Everton followed by the set-back to Palace.

This has given Liverpool a four-point lead at the top, as Guardiola feels his side have the capacity to bounce back from bumps across the road and deal with the challenges ahead.

“We’re going to Leicester needing to win. Last season we dropped points and immediately won again,” he said according to FourFourTwo.

Draws to Wolves and Liverpool in the reverse fixture means City have already dropped six points at this stage, something which happened only twice in their record-breaking campaign last season.

“That’s what we have to do. We have two games away before the New Year and we have to do that.

“When we win I insist they are calm and now it is the same. We lose a game, it happens, and focus on the next one.

“We have to see how our character is. We have shown many times that we react well and we’re going to try again.

“It’s always tough to win at Leicester, then Southampton. We’ll see what happens.” he added.
