Jali misses out again

Mamelodi Sundowns will be without Andile Jali and Wayne Arendse for their CAF Champions League Group A tie against ASEC Mimosas at Lucas Moripe Stadium tonight.

Both players missed out on the Absa Premiership match against AmaZulu at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday and they will again have to watch from the sidelines as they nurse injuries.

Jali is out with a dead leg and Arendse has been struggling with a calf injury. Sundowns, though, have enough quality in their side to call upon the likes of Hlompho Kekana and Tiyani Mabunda in midfield, while players such as Mosa Lebusa, Rivaldo Coetzee and Ricardo Nascimento are all fit to play in central defence.

Coach Pitso Mosimane has been working on the players’ mental strength after their defeats to AmaZulu and Chippa United in the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup respectively in the last six days.

“What’s important is to get the legs fresh and the mind proper because we need the team for Friday,” Mosimane said.

“If you don’t regenerate the team, you aren’t going the right way and if you don’t work on the mind, you aren’t going the right way. The only way to turn things around is to win a match. There’s nothing else.”

Sundowns registered their first three points in Group A on match day two against 2017 champions Wydad Casablanca and they know that they cannot afford to slip up on home soil tonight. Three points are needed for them to enhance their chances of qualifying for the knockout phase of the competition.
