Jele welcomes prospect of all-SA CAF final

Orlando Pirates skipper Happy Jele is relishing the possibility of an all-South African CAF Champions League final but is wary of losing focus of their own campaign.

Pirates have returned to the Champions League following a six-year hiatus, joining PSL rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in flying the country’s flag on the continent.

Both sides are currently in the group stages, marking a historic feat for South African clubs, and could very well meet one another in the latter stages of the campaign.

First, they will need to overcome Guinean champions Horoya at Orlando Stadium this evening, with kick-off set for 18h00.

Nonetheless, Jele feels it would be special for the entire country should fate lead them to possibly meeting The Brazilians in the final come May 31.

“That [a final between Pirates and Sundowns] would be nice for South Africa, but the focus for us is on Friday. We need to keep our heads for the game and try to get results first,” said Jele, before emphasizing the importance of their campaign as well as his senior role within the side.

“It’s a very important competition for the team and, for the guys that have never been here, I need to motivate them to work hard for the team.”
