Kekana motivated to play at FNB Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana says they need to show why they are champions, when they meet Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

As usual, Sundowns are juggling domestic and continental football, which often results in them playing catch-up in the local league. They have three games in hand on leaders Bidvest Wits and would be a point ahead of the Clever Boys if they win all these matches.

They start the year in fifth place, a spot above Amakhosi who are determined to make a turnaround after a difficult first half of the season.

“Well, as defending champions we really need to give a performance and try to show why we have been champions in all of these years and try to really represent our team and people,” Kekana said.

“The only thing we can do for ourselves and family is to go to FNB [Stadium] and try to win the match. It’s possible, it’s doable. We will try by all means to give a performance because that’s the only thing we can take care of. We are hoping for the best.

“We expect fireworks because they will come at us, they are playing at home. We have to fight and give a performance.”

He added: “In matches like this I don’t think any player would need motivation, because this match, especially at FNB, is a motivation. It’s motivation for me to play at FNB.
