Mabhuti Khenyeza scored the fastest goal by a Kaizer Chiefs player against Orlando Pirates in 2007 and has offered his advice to players who might be making a debut this weekend.
With Ernst Middendorp hinting he might give new goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi and newly promoted defender Happy Mashiane their debuts on Saturday, the new AmaZulu assistant coach says the Soweto Derby is where legends are made.
“It’s a very big game but as a player you don’t have to be afraid, it can build or destroy you,” Khenyeza said.
“Even when you make a mistake just move on quickly from it and be positive. Whatever happens on the day it creates memories and I would advise players to be confident and be ready to fight.”
On whether the goal he scored in 2007 relaunched his career and made him adapt at Naturena back then, Khenyeza replied: “Well, I was already used to the club, before that Derby we had other tough matches.
“For me it was not easy to adapt because when I moved to Gauteng I knew what to expect, and I was ready for anything.”
Kick-off at FNB Stadium is at 15h30.
