Laffor: Sirino is a smart player

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Anthony Laffor says players always have a good chance of scoring when they are playing alongside South American star player Gaston Sirino.

Sirino joined Sundowns halfway through last season and hit the ground running, as though he had been playing in the PSL for his entire professional career. The Uruguayan is an intelligent player who is a nightmare for defenders to contain, because they never really know what he’s going to do next with the ball.

This season Sirino has five goals and eight assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.

“Yeah, but he don’t speak English, so I don’t know how that works,” Laffor joked.  “No, but Sirino is a good player. If you play around Sirino he is very smart and you are gonna score goals because he reads the game very well.

“Whenever I am in the pitch I always want to be around him because he is not selfish. I just want to say thanks to God for giving him brains. He is a good player and he is always wants to play for the team.”

Sundowns, meanwhile, are back in the country after playing to a goalless draw with ASEC Mimosas in their CAF Champions League clash in Abidjan on Tuesday. Their next assignment is an Ansa Premiership match against Polokwane City at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday (19h30).
