Lebese: I need to catch up

SuperSport United loanee George Lebese has admitted he still has some catching up to do in terms of match fitness but insisted his confidence is already back where it should be.

Lebese joined Matsatsantsa on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns on transfer deadline day last month and has so far earned just 23 minutes of playing time, though he already registered his first assist in their 3-2 win over Golden Arrows a fortnight ago.

He was then reduced to an onlooker from the bench as his team edged Orlando Pirates 1-0 in midweek, but understandably so having not featured at all this season prior to his SuperSport debut.

The 30-year-old midfielder has since admitted he is still some way off the pace of the rest of his teammates but assured that his confidence is not an issue since his arrival at Megawatt Park.

“In terms of getting the minutes and playing, yes, I need to catch up because I haven’t been on the pitch for long,” said Lebese.

“But in terms of my confidence, the team has shown faith in me and the players have been welcoming and for me that’s a confidence booster on its own.

“It shows what they think of me as a person who can contribute to the club.”
