Liverpool confirm first January exit

Liverpool have announced the departure of England’s 2017 U-20 FIFA World Cup hero Dominic Solanke to AFC Bournemouth in a £19m transfer plus add-ons.

Solanke, 21, arrived at Anfield surrounding major optimism in a cut-price £3.5m deal from domestic rivals Chelsea after enjoying a fruitful stint in the Eredivisie with Vitesse Arnhem and winning the U-20 World Cup with England.

However, with the Reds currently within the title race, the promising forward has failed to compete with Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah for his favoured central attacking role.

Solanke will now slot into the Cherries squad as a direct replacement for Glasgow Rangers-bound Jermaine Defoe after penning a ‘long-term’ contract.

“Everybody at LFC thanks Dom for his contribution to the Reds and wishes him the best of luck for the future,” read a statement on Liverpool’s official website.

Bournemouth head coach Eddie Howe could not hide his delight after securing the talent who was strongly linked with a move to Crystal Palace this month.

“Dominic is technically gifted, very athletic and has the physical profile that will give us something different in our front line,” said Howe, as per The Guardian.

“He has done very well for England at various age groups, has a huge amount of potential and I’m really excited about working with him.”
