Lobi coach: 'I am not your girlfriend'

The longstanding rivalry between Nigeria and South Africa took another toll as a beef emerged between Lobi Stars coach Solomon Ogbeide and Pitso Mosimane.

Ogbeide has alleged that the Mamelodi Sundowns coach refused to shake his hand after the South African club’s 3-0 win over his team in Tshwane on Saturday.

Thapelo Morena, Themba Zwane and Lebohang Maboe scored as The Brazilians reclaimed the bragging rights against the Nigerians, who beat them 2-1 in the first leg at the Mnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugo last month.

Ogbeide and Mosimane exchanged heated words during the post-match press conference and for Ogbeide it seemed as if his visit to South Africa left a sour taste in the mouth and bothered him more than the result on the pitch.

“At the end of the match I tried to greet him [Mosimane], he refused and then I said, ‘Ok, I am your wife? What is my business with you?'” said Ogbeide.

“So even when I saw him [on Friday] I just told myself ‘I am not your girlfriend’. You’re a man of your own. You’re a coach in your country. You’re not bigger than me. I am not bigger than you, so what is my business with you?

“Whatever you think you are in your country is what you are in your country. I know what I am in my country, so that’s your business. So if you don’t greet me, it doesn’t diminish African football or increase African football but relationships must be maintained. That’s all that happened.”

Ogbeide later hit out at Sundowns claiming The Brazilians refused to give them a pitch to train on ahead of the meeting.
