Thembinkosi Lorch is hoping that one day he will convert his Kaizer Chiefs-supporting father into an Orlando Pirates fan.

Lorch grew up supporting Amakhosi, but his heart is now fully with the Buccaneers and this was evident in his display during Pirates’ 2-1 victory over their rivals in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Lorch was on the score sheet, getting the opener in the first half after he was brilliantly set up by the in-form Vincent Pule.

You’d have to spare a thought for Lorch’s father. While he may have been mourning yet another defeat to Pirates this year, he obviously had to be happy that his son did well and helped the Buccaneers progress to the final, where they’ll face Baroka FC. So it’s always mixed emotions when Pirates face his beloved Amakhosi.

“I enjoy playing against Chiefs because it’s a team I grew up supporting. My family supports Chiefs, so it’s difficult for them to choose who they must support, especially my father,” the former Maluti FET College player told KickOff.com, the day after Pirates registered their third victory over Chiefs in 2018.

“He always does not know who he must support – me or Kaizer Chiefs. I am his son and he obviously supports me, but he still has that thing for Chiefs. But I want to convert him so that he supports Pirates. I enjoy playing against Chiefs, so I feel I always need to work hard when I play against them.”
