Maboe comfortable with striker's role

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lebohang Maboe insists he is ‘more than comfortable’ playing as a striker after netting his sixth goal of the season.

The Brazilians climbed to top of the table following a 3-2 win over Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld.

Maboe opened the scoring with a neat finish in the first half, and he is relishing the new role under Pitso Mosimane.

“It all goes down to the hard work I’m putting in, in the training fields you know. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to,” Maboe told SuperSport TV.

“The coach changed me to play in the striker’s role and I have to score the goals for the team, so I’m glad I was able to help tonight.

“As a soccer player you have to versatile and be able play in a position that the coach want to play you in. I’m more than comfortable playing upfront.”

The former Maritzburg United attacker was pleased to reward the supporters, who have been patient despite two back-to-back stalemates, with the three points

“It was very important for us to work as a team because Cape Town City coming here was not going to be an easy game. We have not been collecting points. We have been dropping points in our past two games. I feel like we owe it to our fans and ourselves.

“These people [fans] always come in numbers to support us. We owe it to them,” he said.
