Mahachi apologises to Buccaneers

Orlando Pirates midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi has issued a public apology to the club’s supporters as well as the hierarchy following their clash with FC Platinum.

Pirates, with a relatively simple task at hand, failed to capitalise on the opportunity to relieve some pressure in their hopes of making it through CAF Champions League group stages on Friday evening.

Bucs found themselves 2-0 down at the half-time break at home to the Zimbabwean champions, who had yet to register a goal in Group B but managed to rally to a 2-2 draw at the Orlando Stadium.

However, they also had a glorious opportunity to complete a stunning come-from-behind victory had it not been for Mahachi failing to find the net, despite being unmarked in acres of space, in the final seconds of the match.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows winger thus fook the blame upom himself and felt the need to request forgiveness from those whom he let down.

“Firstly, I would like to apologise to the supporters, management and everyone at the club. I got a chance in the last minute, but I was not expecting it,” Mahachi explained to KickOff.com. “But that’s football, I need to learn from it.”

The 25-year-old further conceded the team’s performance was not up to standard as he emphasised the importance of their final group stage clash in Conakry this weekend.

“We didn’t start well in the first half but in the second half we showed character [to come back from 2-0 down], so I’m happy for the coaches because they pushed us,” he added.
