Maritzburg target year-end party

Maritzburg United are looking to end the year off in a jovial mood when they host Baroka in the Absa Premiership this weekend by inviting supporters to attend free of charge.

The Team of Choice have endured a nightmare start to the 2018/19 campaign, with results not fortcoming in their last eight league encounters.

Coach Fadlu Davids’ position has since come under scrutiny despite leading the club to their first ever cup final in last season’s Nedbank Cup, which ended in disappointment as they fell to Free State Stars.

With just two wins in 16 matches in all competitions thus far, Maritzburg are going through their worst start to a season since 2015/16, during which they won only two of their opening 21 games in all competitions.

This weekend’s fixture with Bakgaga is in fact a bottom-of-the-table clash, with both sides on 11 points, although the hosts do still have a game in hand.

Nonetheless, the club are aiming to bag their first home win of the season and have called on supporters to spur the team on by offering free entrance.

“Although results have not gone our way over the last couple of months, 2018 has largely been a successful year for the club, and we would like to celebrate that by ending on a high note with a win in front of a full house on Saturday,” said chairman Farook Kadodia in a statement.

“Through good and through tough times, we have always been able to count on our wonderful supporters, who are an integral part of what this club stands for.

“We highly value and appreciate our fans, and as such we would like to take this opportunity to give a little something back to them with free entry on Saturday.”
