MDC: Bucs, Chiefs secure wins

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs’ MultiChoice Diski Challenge sides began the new year with victory, while Cape Town City were held by Mamelodi Sundowns in this weekend’s action.

Kaizer Chiefs reserves started the new year on a high after thrashing Baroka FC reserves 4-1 in the Multi Choice Diski Challenge on Saturday afternoon at Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

Happy Mashiane opened the scoring for Chiefs reserves in the ninth minute and Itumeleng Shopane gave Amakhosi a 2-0 lead two minutes before halftime.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo made it 3-0 for Chiefs just after the hour while Brian Shokane scored a consolation goal for Bakgaga reserves two minutes before time.

Ncobo made it 4-1 for Amakhosi and completed his brace in the last minute of regulation time.

Cape Town City reserves maintained top spot in the MDC table despite playing to a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday morning at TUT Stadium.

Jamie Craak grabbed the lead for City reserves in the ninth minute with a brilliant free-kick and Keanu Cupido unfortunately netted an own goal that brought the Brazilians reserves level just after the hour and the sides shared the spoils.
