Micho aims to wrap it up at home

Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic is hoping to kill off their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie in the first leg, having one eye on the Telkom Knockout final.

Pirates will commence their journey of thousands of kilometres across the African continent with a two-legged preliminary round tie against Seychellois outfit Light Stars.

Stars are expected to pose little threat to the 1995 Champions League winners, as they make their first appearance in the premier continental competition after previously getting knocked out in the early rounds of the Confederation Cup by Bidvest Wits in 2016.

With this in mind, ‘Micho’ is eager to wrap things up in their own backyard on Wednesday evening before they travel to Seychelles next week, as they look to prepare key personnel for the Telkom Knockout final against Baroka a few days later.

“We want to utilise this opportunity and prove that home advantage in Africa is so important, because it’s crucial for us not only to win but do so convincingly and not to concede,” said Micho ahead of this evening’s clash at Orlando Stadium.

“That way can we go to Seychelles with a team where we can juggle [rotate] and allow some players to prepare for the final of the Telkom Knockout against Baroka.

“So, this is what we’re looking at and the important thing is that our total focus is on [tonight’s] game – anything behind and ahead is at present not important.

“I believe we are ready, and I believe the players are more than motivated to give everything to represent the country in the best possible way.”
