Mikel in talks over shock Boro move

Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has agreed a shock return to English football just two years after leaving Chelsea for a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.

Mikel, 31, left the Blues in 2017 after a decade of success with the Premier League giants, winning every trophy on offer.

He secured a money-spinning move to Chinese outfitย Tianjin Teda but reportedly cancelled his contract by mutual consent at the end of their domestic season.

While the Super Eagles captain was subsequently linked with a host of European clubs, Championship side Middlesborough have reportedly secured his services on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The Boro, currently led by manager Tony Pulis is persuing Premier League promotion and currently sit in fifth place, seven points behind league leaders Leeds United.

Mikel made 249 Premier League appearances for The Blues and was part of the team that beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in 2012.
