Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo refused to take all the plaudits following his side’s Telkom Knockout win over Kaizer Chiefs.

Bucs progressed through to the final of the competition after sinking rivals Amakhosi for the second time in a space of four weeks by the same scoreline.

โ€œIt was definitely not an easy game. Kaizer Chiefs is a great team to play against. Playing Kaizer Chiefs twice in a row in a period of two weeks [four weeks] is not easy. So the guys gave in a great push and we were fortunate to come out with a victory. We created the chances and lucky for us we managed to convert them,โ€ Mlambo told SuperSport TV.

โ€œWhen youโ€™re playing against the likes of Mido [George Maluleka] and [Willard] Katsande but we got Musa [Nyatama] as well experience, I got [Thabiso] Kutumela in front of me, heโ€™s a great number ten. He plays in between the lines. I have [Thembinkosi] Lorch. So it was difficult competition in midfield. They packed the midfield and we had to pack it as well. We managed to pull through and dominated it if I could say.โ€

Mlambo was humble in accepting his award giving credit to his teammates.

โ€œA performance supported by the great performance of my players [teammates]. I mean no man is an island I wouldnโ€™t have done it alone. So with their great performance it singled me out but itโ€™s a token going to all of them. They put in a great shift and we all became victorious.

โ€œThe technical team sleep late they donโ€™t sleep sometimes and they prepare well to help us improve our game.โ€

The former Bidvest Wits midfielder added that Amakhosi committed a big mistake by letting them have the ball all the time.
