Mlambo: We’ll never be complacent

Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo says he has not seen any complacency creeping into the players, after last year’s total domination in the Soweto Derby.

Pirates beat their Soweto rivals three times in 2018, twice in the league and once in the cup. Mlambo, in fact, has not lost to Amakhosi since joining the Buccaneers in January last year.

“I have not seen anything like that in the team. We’ll never be complacent, that’s unless we are in the wrong place. Playing for a club of this magnitude you always need to be on top of your game and you always need to be willing to give 110 percent,” the former Bidvest Wits midfielder says.

Mlambo says they are not focused on the title just yet, but they rather just want to make sure that they keep on collecting points, as the race for the biggest prize in local football could go down to the wire.

At the moment Pirates, Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns are seen as favourites to lift the title.

“I’d say we don’t really focus on the league now, because there’s 10 to 11 games to play. I mean the league has been won on the last day, so there’s a high possibility that any team can win it,” the 27-year-old says.
