Motupa puts emotions aside

Bidvest Wits midfielder Gift Motupa is adamant his emotions will not interfere with his responsibilities when they meet Baroka on Sunday.

Wits visit the Limpopo outfit for the second Telkom Knockout semi-final as they look to continue the defence of their title.

It is expected to be an emotional affair or sorts for Motupa, who was able to resurrect his career while on loan at Bakgaga from Orlando Pirates last season.

After a largely frustrating spell on the side-lines at The Buccaneers in the 2016/17 season, the 24-year-old re-discovered his potential with nine goals in 22 league appearances in the previous campaign.

Now, he will have to try to plot the downfall of his former employers for the benefit of The Clever Boys and he insists he feels no sympathy for his old teammates.

“I loved [my stay at Baroka] for the fact that I was getting game-time, because the more game-time you get as a player, the better you become – you improve every week,” said Motupa.

“So, that gave me an opportunity to also score some goals – because I was playing. Now, I’m focussed on the team that I’m playing for now.

“Baroka is the past, I appreciate what we had in the past but now I’m a Bidvest Wits player, so my focus is on making sure I do well for this club.”
