Ndengane in line for Bucs debut

Former Bloemfontein Celtic defender Alfred Ndengane is in line to make his Orlando Pirates debut when they face Light Stars in the CAF Champions League this evening.

Ndengane’s arrival has yet to be formally announced by The Buccaneers, but despite this he was earlier confirmed amongst those registered for their 2018/19 CAF campaign.

The 31-year-old was however involved in Pirates’ final preparations for tonight’s preliminary round first-leg fixture at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Though he remains ineligible for domestic fixtures until the PSL registration window opens in January, his eligibility in CAF was facilitated by the League’s regulations.

According to a source, the ex-Celtic captain could well make his debut this evening for his new club as he looks to establish himself in coach Milutin Sredojevic’s plans for 2019.

“Depending on the technical team’s selection, [Ndengane] might play tonight,” said the source.

Suggestions are that he could slot into central defence alongside Bucs skipper Happy Jele, who has welcomed any such changes.

“I don’t know [who will play] – the technical team will decide which players they will put out on the day, so hopefully the team that plays will do their best,” said Jele.
