Ndengane sticks to Pirates script

Orlando Pirates defender Alfred Ndengane has refused to be drawn on their Absa Premiership title race as he offered a rehearsed response following their match against Golden Arrows.

Pirates came away with a slender victory over the KwaZulu-Natal outfit at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday but saw themselves retain second spot on the log standings.

With just one point separating them from leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who still have one game in hand, The Buccaneers are in a promising position to maintain pressure on the defending champions, who are also still engaged in the CAF Champions League.

But with Micho having previously publicly declared their disinterest in their title rivals so as to not accumulate pressure, Ndengane, who picked up the Man of the Match award over the weekend, kept to the script when quizzed over their chances of ending their seven-year wait for the league trophy.

“For us, we don’t concentrate on what’s happening on the log. We’re trying to win as many games as we can and collect as many points as possible,” said Ndengane.

Bucs and Downs are both in action in midweek, with the Soweto side set to host Bloemfontein Celtic while the Tshwane giants visit Cape Town City on Wednesday evening (19h30) as the battle for top spot hots up.
