Notoane praise for Singh, Phaka, Foster

National under-23 team coach David Notoane has reserved praise for his attacking trio of Luther Singh, Phakamani Mahlambi and Luther Singh following their performance against Angola.

South Africa swept over the Angolans in their opening 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday evening, registering a healthy 3-1 advantage ahead of the second leg.

The Mamelodi Sundowns youth coach was full of praise of his players and his technical team, while singling out his frontmen who led the charge.

“First and foremost, one should congratulate the boys for the good reaction and execution of the game plan we put in place, because Angola are not an easy team,” Notoane said.

“The entire team played very and I want to compliment the technical team and the support staff, I think the whole plan worked well considering this was a tricky away match.

“I think the 3-1 scoreline is a clear reflection of the type of preparations we put in and our attacking prowess of Luther Singh, Phakamani Mahlambi and Lyle Foster. Their work rate was outstanding and fantastic.”

Notoane, however, also pointed out some negatives as he identified aspects to improve on ahead of Tuesday evening’s return leg at the Bidvest Stadium.

“I was really happy with their overall performance and the current picture we have at the moment,” he added.

“I was really happy with their overall performance and the current picture we have at the moment,” he added.

“When you lead 3-0 in this kind level of football, you need to keep more possession and steal your moments to go and score, which I think we did but didn’t take our chances.
