Paez omitted from Chiefs' CAF squad

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed a 24-man squad for the preliminary stages of their 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup campaign, with several notable players left out.

Amakhosi will begin their continental quest on Wednesday with the hosting of Tanzanian-Zanzibarian side Zimamoto at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The return leg will see them travel to Zanzibar next Wednesday, with further details still to be confirmed.

Of their 33-man squad, Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas will be utilising only 24 of those for the preliminary rounds before being eligible to register six more before the group stages – should they advance.

Amongst those omitted are defenders Letlhogonolo Mirwa and Kgotso Moleko, midfielders Wiseman Meyiwa (still in hospital following a car crash), Khotso Malope, Joseph Molangoane (injured) and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (will be on South Africa Under-20 COSAFA duty), and forwards Bongolethu Jayiya and Gustavo Paez.
