Palace hold Man United at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s disappointing league form continued with a goalless draw at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

United were smarting from their defeat to Manchester City, and needed to re-instill the supporters fading confidence in the team.

Spaniard Juan Mata started made his 200th appearance in the club’s colours, with Palace aiming to build momentum.

Early on, Anthony Martial was set on his way after suspicion of bringing down a long ball with his left arm to draw a save from Wayne Hennessey.

Palace quickly shrugged off the mini-attack and with that Wilfred Zaha came within a whisker from finding the net after seeing his shot from outside the box narrowly miss the bottom corner.

Dutchman Patrick van Aanholt’s run from the left led him into the box to connect with a cross from Andros Townsend only to miss a good chance from an unmarked scenario.

The pendulum swung in favour of United once again when Jesse Lingard draw a save at the near post from Hennessy while Martial’s header forcing him to a double save on the rebound.

It looked as if the Eagles had gone in front when Cheikh Kouyate’s glancing header deflected off Victor Lindelof into the bottom corner, but it was disallowed for offside three minutes to halftime.

At the start of the second half, United started with more promise with Romelu Lukaku coming close on a few occasions- albeit disallowed goal.
