Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Steven Pienaar has been impressed with the work of Benni McCarthy at Cape Town City.
McCarthy has been in charge of the Citizens for just under two seasons, but he’s made such a big impact building a side that is currently a dark horse in the battle for the Absa Premiership title.
The former FC Porto and Blackburn Rovers won his first piece of silverware earlier this season when City beat SuperSport United in the MTN8 final, via a penalty shootout, after losing to the same side in the same competition last season.
They are currently fourth on the league standings, just four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
City could move within a point of Sundowns on Tuesday night, as the two sides meet at Cape Town Stadium (19h30).
“Obviously for him as a coach he is improving from last season. He lost in the final and then this season he won the trophy, so he is improving” Pienaar tells KickOff.com.
“The way the team is playing, he wants them to play the right way, which is attacking football. Big ups to him and I think he is an example to a lot of former players. Hopefully he can go on and win the league, that’s every coach’s dream.”
