RamaG: Why I chose Highlands Park

Polokwane City striker Rodney Ramagalela says even though the club will always have a special place in his heart, he had to move on to be closer to his Johannesburg-based family.

Ramagalela has signed a pre-contract with Highlands Park and has agreed to a three-year deal with the Lions of the North, which will start on July 1.

Ramagalela has been sidelined by City after refusing to sign a new deal with the club and could spend the rest of the campaign watching matches from the stands after penning a pre-contract with the Lions of the North.

“I love Polokwane City, but sometimes people need to understand we are also working for our families. There was an opportunity for me to stay with my family in Joburg so I took the opportunity to go where there is my family. It’s not about something else, it’s about my family.

“They are in Joburg so I want to be with them, that’s why I took the decision that I want to go and stay in Joburg, and I chose Highlands Park.”

Despite reports suggesting City chairman Johnny Molagadi is not happy about the player moving on, Ramagalela says they have a good relationship.

“I do have a good relationship with the chairman, there’s nothing between me and the chairman. From now on I think it’s up to them whether they use me or not, but me as a player I will be ready whenever they need me.

“I’m with the team, and the relationship it hasn’t changed, as I said I’m too professional to change the relationship. You know football, football is all about moving from that team to another team, and you must not burn the bridge when you leave the team. That’s what I’m doing, I can’t damage the relationship which I have with the team.”
