Reds sink Everton with late winner

Liverpool needed a last-gasp winner to see off Everton 1-0 in the English Premier League on Sunday evening.

In the Merseyside derby, the visitors missed an opportunity for an early lead when Yerry Mina’s header from a free-kick narrowly missed the far of the left hand post.

From five metres, Sadio Mane missed a sitter after being delicately put through by Mohamed Salah following a nice exchange of passes.

A lovely run down the right from Salah ended up in a cross-field pass to Roberto Firmino, who turned to get a shot away but it went wide before the 20th minute mark.

The Toffees found themselves in a scramble inside the box, with Andre Gomes unable to steer home from inside the box after a long ball.

Inside 28 minutes, Firmino found space near the edge of the box managed to pull a cut back to try and find the top corner with a curler, but Jordan Pickford saved easily.

Sloppy defending from Everton set Xherdan Shaqiri free on goal with a pass from Salah, but Pickford was quick off his line to guide it clear for a corner.

In the second half, Mane missed yet another clear chance after running clear from a dummy by Salah only to snap his effort on the side of the net.
