Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was named the Best Player of the Year at the 2019 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai for a record fifth time.
The 33-year-old pipped Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe for the honour, which has been described as the third most prestigious individual accolade in football after FIFA’s The Best and the Ballon d’Or.
Ronaldo was also awarded the Fans’ Award, while his agent Jorge Mendes won the Agent of the Year prize.
It marked the third consecutive year Ronaldo was crowned the award’s best player and fifth in total since 2011.
World Cup-winning France coach Didier Deschamps took the Best Coach award.
The Les Blues boss ousted an impressive list of nominees that included Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool and Juventus’ Massimiliano Allegri.
