Soweto Derby cup hero: Katlego Mashego

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have met in some memorable knockout competition matches and this weekend’s Telkom Knockout semi-final between the two sides is expected to thrill.

As they prepare to lock horns for the second time in less than a month, after their Absa Premiership meeting ended in Pirates’ favour, takes you down memory lane by looking back at cup competition heroes from both sides in the PSL era.

After starting the day by looking at Kenny Niemach’s contribution in the 2001 BP Top 8 semi-final, we now turn our focus to Katlego Mashego who sent Pirates into the 2010 MTN8 final.

Striker Katlego Mashego sent the Buccaneers into the MTN8 final when he came off the bench to score the winning goal in this second-leg encounter against their biggest rivals.

‘Mahoota’, as he is affectionately known, scored with eight minutes left on the clock at FNB Stadium, which was a great way to make his comeback after recovering from injury.

The first leg match at the same venue had finished 1-1.
