Soweto Derby cup hero: Oupa Manyisa

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have met in some memorable knockout competition matches and this weekend’s Telkom Knockout semi-final between the two sides is expected to thrill. 

As they prepare to lock horns for the second time in less than a month, after their Absa Premiership meeting ended in Pirates’ favour, KickOff.com takes you down memory lane by looking back at cup competition heroes from both sides in the PSL era.

Sthembiso Ngcobo was our first hero today, but now we look at the contribution former Pirates midfielder Oupa Manyisa, who is now in the colours of Mamelodi Sundowns, made in Durban to help the Buccaneers retain their MTN8 title.

Almost a year after Pirates were beaten 3-0 by Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout decider, the Buccaneers got their revenge in the MTN8 final the following season. A tough match ended up going into extra time after the sides could not find the back of the net inside 90 minutes. It needed a touch of brilliance from one of the players and midfielder Oupa Manyisa stepped up to lead the dominant Buccaneers.
