Suarez & Messi restore Barca's five-point lead

FC Barcelona claimed a 3-0 victory over Eibar with Lionel Messi grabbing the 400th La Liga goal of his career.

Barca have now extended their winning run in the league to six matches and restore their five-point lead over Atletico Madrid at the top of the table, while Eibar remain in 13th position.

Ernesto Valverde’s side began the brighter of the sides and went close in the ninth minute as Gerard Pique nodded Lionel Messi’s curling free-kick just wide of the post.

Ten minutes later, Barca would have the lead they deserved. After some fluid one-touch passing, Philippe Coutinho intelligently found Luis Suarez inside the box, with the Uruguayan striker curling his effort sumptuously in to the far corner.

Eibar came close to equalizing when Enrich flicked his header just wide of goal. Then Sergi Roberto had an opportunity for Barca at the other end, but couldn’t place his header inside the post.

It took until the 53rd minute before the Blaugrana had their second. Superb combination play between Coutinho and Suarez freed up space for Lionel Messi, who stepped past the last defender and coolly slotted home for the 400th La Liga goal of his career.

Soon after, it was 3-0 as Eibar this time fell asleep. Roberto’s quick throw-in found Suarez in acres of space and through on goal, with the number nine producing a quality finish with the outside of his foot.

All in all, it was another convincing performance from the La Liga leaders as they ran out 3-0 victors.
