Before theΒ 1-1 draw at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, Osorio identified Tau as a key asset for the South Africans having watched the Brighton & Hove Albion forward shine on Saturday in the African Nations Cup qualifier with Nigeria at FNB Stadium.

Tau, who is currently on loan at Belgian second-tier side Saint Gilloise, threatened from the onset against Paraguay as he stung the hands of goalkeeper Antony Silva two minutes in after escaping two markers.

He tried his luck again with a relatively tame effort midway through the first stanza before the visitors took the lead in the 32nd minute through Federico Santander’s close-range finish.

Bafana looked to be heading to defeat until Thulani Serero, a 65th minute replacement for the anonymous Lebohang Maboe, put Tau clean through on goal and the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns man flicked the ball over the onrushing keeper with what was the last touch of the game.

Tau received recognition for his efforts with a second straight man-of-the-match award.

“As I said yesterday (Monday) prior to the game, he’s a good player,” Osorio said at the post-match press conference.
