'We had enough chances to win'

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt felt his charges created enough chances to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership encounter.

Despite sitting at the top of the table, Wits missed a good chance to open a five-point lead over Sundowns after the two sides drew 1-1 on Saturday night.

“I think we deserved to win the game in my honest opinion. But obviously, you know we just didn’t have the quality in the final third,” Hunt told SuperSport TV.

“We had enough chances to win. So I’m very disappointed that we didn’t win the game and obviously they are experienced and have the know-how to delay the game and they did well so you got to give them credit for that.

Hunt admitted that finishing off opponents has been a big problem for the Clever Boys this season.

“We got to be better in the final third and all that, but it’s been an Achilles heel for us all season. We created overloads,” he added.

“But it was very difficult because they stayed compact in the middle and you couldn’t go through to the middle so we had to overload them from the side.

“And between both our full-backs, I must have had 20 to 30 crosses each. I don’t think one hit a good area, so there’s your problem.

“Because when a team sits in there it’s difficult and we had to break them down and we didn’t break them down that’s pretty much the bottom line.”
