Williams powers Bilbao past Sevilla

A double from Inaki Williams gave Athletic Bilbao a 2-0 win over Sevilla in LaLiga on Sunday evening.

Sevilla were hoping to get closer to runaway leaders FC Barcelona, whilst Bilbao needed victory as well to avoid slumping into a relegation battle.

An evenly balanced opening 20 minuets resulted in a least amount of clear-cut scoring opportunities on either side of the coin.

That was the case until Inaki Williams finished off a well-worked counterattack with a blistering top corner finish after cutting in front the right side of the penalty area on 22 minutes.

The White and Reds started moving in their wits and almost drew an immediate response from a low cross, but Andre Silva tangled with the ball at his feet and couldn’t get the shot away.

Later, Pablo Garcia broke through from midfield to get on the end of a long ball but his final delivery was denied from point-blank range.

Much was expected from the sides battling at either end of the table, albeit for a different set of objectives although clear cut chances were hard to come by.

In the second half, the sides displayed a fast-paced attacking game whenever the opportunity to breakthrough came to the forth.

As such, Williams almost made his presence felt with his second of the match but his effort flew well off target midway through the half.
