Xulu: We just need to score and win

Maritzburg United captain Siyanda Xulu is confident they will avoid relegation this season.

The Team of Choice are bottom of the Absa Premiership table and are without a win since September when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic.

Despite a change in coach last month, as Muhsin Ertugral took over from the axed Fadlu Davids, Maritzburg have not been able to improve in front of goal or register any wins.

They’ve registered just one win all season and have an embarrassing record of six goals in 17 matches.

After their 1-0 defeat to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, Ertugral’s men take on Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (15h30).

Bafana Bafana defender Xulu says, even though they lost to Sundowns, there was positive energy in the squad and they’ll take it into the match against Chippa.

“Even though we lost on Wednesday against Sundowns, we created more chances which motivates us to keep on fighting,” he says.

“We are doing well in defence, we just need to score and win, then the approach will change because we are not that far from others [on the league standings].”

Xulu believes the match away to Chippa will be harder than the one against Sundowns, due to the fact that the Chilli Boys are also in danger of getting relegated.
